'There Comes Papa' is one of the ten paintings sent by Ravi Varma to the International Exhibition in Chicago in 1894. He was advised to add a dog to the painting with the reason that the dog would be and added attraction for American viewers. Over a century ago, household pets were seldom seen in Indian homes, as they were considered unclean.
