Indrajit, also known as Meghanada, was the valiant son of Ravana from the Hindu epic Ramayana. A devout follower of Lord Shiva, he mastered the art of Samadhi, including the power of invisibility. In a fierce battle with the gods, Indrajit used his skills to capture and defeat Indra, the king of gods. This victory led to Indra being taken hostage to Lanka, Ravana's kingdom. Upon intervention by Lord Brahma, Indra was released in exchange for granting a boon to Indrajit and bestowing upon him the title 'Indrajit', signifying his triumph over Indra. The artwork by Raja Ravi Varma, derived from a painting at the Jaganmohan Palace, depicts Indrajit proudly presenting his spoils of war, including an apsara named Suchi, to his father Ravana. Ravi Varma's depiction captures the heroic and dramatic essence of this legendary tale, showcasing Indrajit's prowess and the mythological grandeur of the Ramayana. The narrative of Indrajit's victory over Indra underscores themes of power, devotion, and the interplay between gods and demons in Hindu mythology, making it a timeless and revered part of ancient Indian lore.
